Unifor will be hosting a public rally on Friday, September 22 in Ottawa, urging all governments to commit to negotiating stronger labour standards in NAFTA 2.0.
Labour leaders from the U.S. and Mexico will speak at the rally (names to be confirmed) along with our national president Jerry Dias.
We will also be bussing in Unifor members at General Motors in Ingersoll, Ontario who are currently on strike. Our members are looking for written commitments from the company that ensures Chevy Equinox production stays at the Ingersoll facility (earlier this year GM relocated Terrain CUV production from Ingersoll to one of its Mexican facilities, cutting 600 jobs).
Rally-goers will congregate at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Ottawa at 430pm, and then head over to the Mexican Embassy at 45 O’Connor.
Thanks to everyone who came to our founding meeting tonight! With 19 people from 10 Unifor locals, including local 567, it was a great start to organizing solidarity together in the Ottawa area. Stay tuned for details on upcoming events!
